Well, an amazingly successful ($6000!!!) fishing derby is now behind us, and we are back to focusing on the design of the playground. There has been some serious progress, and it looks like we're pretty close to settling on a final design with Learning Structures. Take a look and let us know what you think. Click the full screen button in the bottom right hand corner of the embedded window for a better view. Also, please feel free to download the document if you'd like.
Check back often to find out about some other cool fundraising opportunities coming in the near future.
Check out our official Great Salt Bay Fishing Derby Page on this very website! Click on the button to the left for the flyer, and any other updates. Check back often. We'll be adding more prizes as the big day gets closer. We now have a Facebook Event Page for the derby. Join the conversation!
Steve Peaslee will run the first Ice Fishing Derby in our area since the Samoset Derby to benefit the playground. Steve is an avid outdoorsman, Registered Maine Guide, and owner of Maineiac Outdoor Hunting Videos. His experience and enthusiasm are sure to bring the greater community out for the playground.
The Great Salt Bay Ice Fishing Derby* will occur on Saturday, February 23rd. It is a state waters derby, so pick your favorite spot, and bring your biggest fish to Great Bay School that afternoon. There will be food, fun and prizes. And, as Steve says, it's not just about the fish, it should be fun for everyone, especially the kids. Mark your calendars to drill some holes and drop some lines on Saturday, February 23rd. Tickets to enter the derby will cost $1 or $5 for 6, and will be sold at participating retailers and GSB.
Keep checking back for further details as the date approaches. If you have any questions, please contact Amy at amykrawic@gmail.com.
Last week the first draft of our new playground arrived. We're hearing some great feedback from students and staff, but now it's your turn. Take a look at the images below (you can zoom in and out for a better view.), and then complete the Playground Design Survey. It's starting to feel real.
The kids made $520 at the early bird sale. Thanks to Twin Village Business Alliance for the side walk space at the Early Bird Sale. Also, a special thanks to Al and Stacy Crocetti of the Hardy Boat. They shared space with us and gave Lighthouse Cruise Tickets to shoppers who donated $5 to the playground. Three Cheers to the Hardy Boat!
Tuesday, October 23rd was Playground night at Romeo's in Damariscotta. From 5-8 Romeo's generously donated 15% of its proceeds to the Playground fund. Kids, families and the GSB Cougar all came out for a fun night of fundraising and good food. All together $226.03 was raised!
Mrs. Peaslee reports that the Kids Make Change Campaign is now up to $2,460. That's more than 1/3 of our total goal for that particular fundraising effort! Keep up the good work everybody. We are well on our way to achieving our goal of $7,350. Remember, once we reach that goal, Renys and The First community bank will match that amount with a dollar for dollar donation.
Thank you to our latest local supporters, The First, N.A. of Damariscotta and Reny's Department Store. Both organization have generously provided the project with matching donations up to $7,350 for our Kids Make Change Campaign.
